Lar...my gunsmith chambered a 45/70 chamber at a customer's request for that same type project. He was using the regular 45/70 length.

Now, I have no personal knowledge of the project but the gunsmith said it worked and the customer was happy with no bolt face mods.

With the more or less mild pressures of the 45/70, it should work all right./beagle
