Melvin in SCmag lead shot question????
What is the composition of the mag lead shot???
Does anyone know the Brinnel hardness, AND, will it respond to water dropping for increasing the hardness?
Thanks,
Melvin

popenmannFrom the BPI website, for their magnum shot:
Shot sizes 4 & 5 - 3% antimony
Shot sizes 6 & 9 - 4% antimony
Shot sizes 7, 7-1/2, 8 & 8-1/2 - 6% antimony
They don't mention arsenic content but it's safe to say it has some. So yeah, it's good stuff, and it should heat treat fine. Then again, so would wheelweight.

Scota4570If you want to shoot far and tight use tungsten or tungsten super shot. IF you want to shoot cheap use lead. If you want to shoot legal and not kill much, use steel.
Seriously, if you are looking to make super lead shotshells, this is not going to be a good use of your time. It has already been water dropped during manufacture. If you want to cast bullets out of lead shot I would avoid it. Lead shot can give casting problems in filling out the mould. It can also give off arsenic fumes. Shot is also expensive these days.
