question on a 250 gr SWC Keith style mould
I have on order a RBCS 44 cal, 430 dia. 250 gr Keith style mould. I want to cast for my .44 mag and don't want to use a gas check. I have 3 loading manuals and none of them list a load for this bullet. Did I buy an un-popular bullet mould? Do I need to cancel this order and get a different bullet style and weight? Does anyone have loading data for this bullet using Unigue powder? I'm only punching holes in paper and sometimes a steel plate target.

Actually you have one of the all time most popular bullets for the .44 mag IMHO. What do you want to do with it? Put it on top of 8 or 10 grains of Unique and shoot it all day long. Or load it up onto 22-23 grains of H110 and go hunting! Elmer would have sat it onto a heap of 2400 and used it for everything up to deer at 600 yards. With today's 2400 19 grains should be about the top end. The lyman cast bullet manual or Hogdon #26 would have a good number of recipes for this one. BD

I have the kt245 version and its one of my favorite bullets my favorite load with it is 9.3 grains of unique in a ruger.

Carroll B...don't get wrapped around the axle by bullet numbers and makers. Select a comparable weight/style that you can find data for, cut the powder 10% for starts and shoot it. If all is well, work up to what you want watching for pressure signs.

Loads of data around for the Lyman 429421 which is the equivelant bullet...almost...well, maybe. Anyway, starting loads will be close enough.

That's a good bullet...go fer it./beagle

Carrol B,

If you indeed ordered an RCBS 44-250-K, you ain't going to use a gascheck!!! It is a plain base type bullet and a gascheck ain't going to be installed!!!

I shoot this slug in my Ruger SRH using Green Dot, WC-820, WC-680, and, yes, Unique. The best loads are with Green Dot and WC-820. I never got the greatest accuracy with Unique.

As someone else indicated, it is a 250 grain cast bullet and there is plenty of data for cast bullets in this weight range. Good-luck...BCB
