500 Jeff Cast bullets
Guys please help,

I want to shoot 500 jeff cast bullets for practise as I can not afford to shoot GSC or Woodleigh bullets trough paper...

Now some people are telling me that its not a good idea to shoot lead bullets in the 500 Jeff Confused

I am going to use gas checks on the bullets...

Please advise...

I shoot cast out of my 500 Jeffrey.

The one problem with the Jeffrey when shooting cast is the short neck. With a bottle necked case, you really want to keep the base of the bullet in the neck for the best accuracy. Whenever I've deep seated a cast bullet in a bottle necked round the accuracy was poor.

For the Jeffrey I found the slightly lighter cast pistol bullets, i.e the 450-470 gr designed for the 500 Linebaugh worked very well as they kept the bullet base in the neck. You could load them very mild ~30 gr of unique for 1100 fps (giant 22 rf Big Grin ) or on up as fast as you'd want to drive them.

In general I find the bigger bores are more tollerant of shooting cast bullets, especially if you keep the pressure and velocity (2000-2200 fps) on the moderate side.
