Cast Rifle Bullet Data
I am trying to put together some cast (140gr) bullets for my daughter to plink with her 7-08 but am having a hard time finding any data. Can someone point me in the right direction? I found good reduced hunting loads on Hodgdon's site but need some cast data. (Also posted in Reloading)

Thanks,
Redleg

redleg172, you have now entered very interesting territory! There is much fun to be had here. Personally, I like using a powder that mostly fills the case and this can be done with such powders as Varget and H4350 (there are plenty others but I haven't used them). My theory is that enough pressure is needed to ensure good combustion and I achieve that with heavier bullets. Don't be shy to shove oversize bullets down the bore. The better the bullet fills the throat the better the results are likely to be. I got very nice accuracy from my 303 Brit with 225gr gas checked bullets on top of AR2208/Varget driven to about 1900fps. For lighter loads I have used AR2205/H4227 with a filler. I have also used Lil'Gun. (7grs up to 15grs under 225gr to 245gr cast). I did not range test any of those loads but I see no reason why they should not work accurately. Then there is paper patching - now that is really fun! And challenging too!

Redleg,I have been using 18 t0 20 grains of RE 7 in my 7mm 08 with good results with the Lyman 140 grain bullet.Don't have my load book here with to give you the velocity but it is most likely 1600 fps.Its a good plinking load for your little girl to learn to shhot with.

you didn't state the boolits weight.
but with either the 145 or the 168 19-20 grs of 2400 has worked nicely in one of two rifles.
24-25 grs 4895 has done well also.

Thanks for all the answers, the bullets are 140gr from Beartooth. I think a couple of these reduced loads will be just the ticket to get her started.
