HipshootMad Dog,
Looks like you are fond of the MARLIN! What caliber is it and what kind of ammo did you use? I just picked up an older M1895 in .45-70 with a 22" bbl with a 1.75 X 5 power scope for guess what-----$175.00. Need to work up some loads for it-----hopefully cast lead bullets will shoot good in it !

HipshootWhit,
My brother sent me a set of dies and 20 rds. of cast bullet reloads plus 120 cast bullets.
I got 40 rds. of ammo with the gun and I have another 140 cast bullets that I had cast for myself years ago when I had borrowed a friends mold.
The scope isn't the greatest
, but if I have to I will swap it out with another rifle that I have which has a 1-4X Leupold on it.
The only drawback is I'm a kinda small guy and I want to load this thing up and it has no recoil pad. I will be dropping it off at the gunsmith Thurs. to have that done !
I want to stay with 405 gr. Rem. sp's and RCBS 405 gr. lead rngc.
Gotta wait till it gets a little colder so I can bundle up with some clothes before I shoot it! Shooting it in a T shirt is not my idea of fun !!!

WhitworthSounds to me like it's time to invest in a Past sissy er recoil pad (I have one myself!!). Then you can do your load development while it's still warm. Those lever-actions are notoriously hard kickers.........

HipshootDropped the gun off today, smith said it will only be a couple of days for him to slightly shorted the stock and install a Decelerator recoil pad.
I need cooler weather due to the fact the local range will only allow shooting of the bench---no off hand or positions at all and I will need something to protect the elbows.
I'm anxious, but I have time. I also have an almost new (15 rds. fired) Winchester Big Bore in .375 Win. that needs to be fired up.
Whitworth-----I was wrong about the price, it was $125.00 and the Win. Big Bore was $150.00.
Sorry!

WhitworthGet outa here, $125.00??!!

Dang!! You really scored!
That Decelerator should make a world of difference. Keep us posted!

HipshootWhit,
Will do! Have been collecting shooting stuff and now have .45-70 brass, 4 different cast bullets, 2 different make round ball, and 2 different jacketed bullets for the .45-70.
For the .375 Win. I have 90 pieces of brass(I just bought some as I don't know how long it will be available), 2 different cast bullets and 1 jacketed bullet.
So you can see I have plenty to keep me busy! Will probably do a lot of testing after Christmas to keep me busy during the bleak winter in N.Y.

WhitworthThat should keep you occupied for a while! I can think of worse ways of spending time! Do you have a chronograph?

HipshootI have 2 of them but unfortunately the local range dips down quite a bit right in front of the shooting benches. I'll have to go to a different range to use the chonograph but will have to wait as the ranges are starting to get busy even during the week as deer season is getting pretty close.
Got the rifle back from the smith today (he had it 2 days) he charged me $60.00 to cut down the stock and install a Decelerator recoil pad (he supplied the pad). He did a really nice job!
I'll probably shoot the .45-70 and the .375 Win. soon just to get a base line with factory ammo as far as accuracy and recoil go.

WhitworthThat's excellent! I'll bet that pad makes a world of difference. I love working up loads for a new gun, it's a lot of fun! Let us know how they shoot and handle. Are you planning on using either for deer this year??

HipshootMy first love is my .358 Win. so I will use that for (hopefully) a buck.
I will probably use the .375 Win. if I get a doe tag (I'm due).

HipshootGuys,
If you go to
www.Javalinahunter.com and click on JAVALINA you see that there are 2 other javalina sub species. The CHACOAN PECCARY and the GIANT PICCARY, both native of South America. Interesting!
