I have been told on many occasions that a warthogs head roasted on a bed of coals is one of the most delicious pieces out there. i have yet to try it but hopefull the time will come. Any one tried it or heard about it ?

Never tried it; sounds kinda nasty. What would there be to eat on the head besides skin and jaw muscle? Surely you aren't talking about the brains.

In many parts of Europe the head of the animal is considered a delicacy. Me? I'll eat the shoulders, hams, and backstraps!!

no not the brains. the meat on the temple and surrounding areas..

There is more meat on the head than you could imagine without stripping it!

It usually isn't waisted, but prparing it in a way wich keeps it recognisable is quite unusual.

It's been a long time since I made head cheese so I can't remember what I put in it but it was delicious sliced for a sandwich !

A small local restaurant here near Stuttgart makes it own pig brain soup.

Apparently it is a delicacy.
I have an unhealthy fear of BSE and JCD, so I won't be at the same table as a bowl of it!

The first time I was in Austria visiting my in-laws, we were there over New Years. It is an Austrian tradition to eat pigs head at dinner on New Years eve. Well, for the week leading up to New years eve, they kept telling me they serve the whole head at the table and we basically pick at it.

I wasn't looking forward to it.

However, when the meal arrived, it was served in a stew made of the meat from the pig's head and it was some of the most delicious, tender meat you ever had!

If you ever go to a whole pig roast, seek out the cheeks (the ones on the face) as it is the best part on the hog IMHO.

Regarding head cheese and hot dogs, please let us not forget SCRAPPLE! (Having grown up in Philly, we know what that is!)

For those of you who do not know what scrapple is, picture this: All of the stuff that doesn't make it into hot dogs, sausage or head cheese goes in scrapple. You know, like lips and assholes And the grey color of it, yum!

It's all palatable if you drink enough........

I've had fantastic scrapple and I've had terrible scrapple so it's all in how you make it !!!

I have trouble with the name "scrapple" more than the concept!

The head meat on a hog, buffalo, or cow is as good as it gets, its tender beyond belief and taste like and is a choice cut of meat. If you like brains then that's good too..I will eat about anything but brains and tongue, to me thats some nasty tasting stuff...My favorite dish is Menudo, but lots of folks wont' eat that, and many won't even stay in the same room with it!

There is an old joke about a wife who busted her husbands b**ls for eating tongue for breakfast ( I would guess that it would apply to hogs head also)

His reply to wife "SHUT UP DEAR AND EAT YOUR EGGS"

Hmmmm, "All the meat that doesn't make it into hot dogs"....so Scrapple is potted meat? Also SCRAPPLE could be scrap apples? In my best Hank Hill voice..."bahaaa" But another AMEN to the drinking part.

Plus one except for the menudo. Barbacoa is roasted cow's head and then the meat is picked off and served in soft tacos. Best tacos on the planet!

"Jowl bacon" is very tasty.
