Zim PH at my ranch
I had a Zim PH fly in to visit. I have known him since 2009. I took him to the ranch . We were going to try hogs at night with my thermals .

We took a total of 6 in 2 afternoons/evenings. I thought I would tell the story of the largest as it was a bit entertaining.

We slipped up on a feeder and waited . Bugs were horrendous. We were behind a small cabbage palm. I was sitting on a 5 gallon bucket . At some point a large boar walked out . My buddy shot just as I was standing up to see. I did not see what happened . However , I did listen intently.

I heard no water splashing. Trust me, it is WET. I did however hear what I thought was thrashing . It was late. We had no real lights . I said to come back in the morning.

We came back around 9 and looked for sign . Even a Zim PH had trouble with the tracks . We went in the swamp near a tree where I was sure I heard the thrashing . Nothing .

My buddy walked north . I walked south. In less than 50 yards , I found the hog. It was a perfect shot . I called my friend who thought I was messing with him. He was quite happy when he saw the hog.

At this point rigor mortis had set in. At first , I thought this would be a problem for the picture. However , it ended up being a very unique picture.

We are at my house now . He flys to Nashville tomorrow.

Well done! That's a nice hog.

Yes, rigor setting in can certainly make an interesting photo. Here's one from 20 or more years ago.

Nice chunky hog Larry. Had you treated him to some open fire backstraps from the smaller hogs?

No, we gave them away . It is difficult to cook when doing the nighttime hunting .
