The Three Pigs

GeedubyaThe Three Pigs
maybe not "The Three Little Pigs",
but three I shot in South Texas a couple days ago!
got out about 6 AM, saw three sounders before I could make out the target and reticle. Nailed this guy as soon as I could see.
About an after after hoglet # 1 was down, this guy stuck his snoot out of the brush (or what was left of it. He was about 35 yds. away from where I was sitting. He got my wind and turned to run. I nailed him on the flip side. He went about 5 yds. before he expired. Don't know if he had been shot before, or had been snared or some other type of injury, but evidently it was a somewhat old wound as it was crusted over and had maggots growing in the wound.
a 286 gr. Nosler Partition out of my 9.3 x 74R settled his hash!
didn't skin this one, left him for coyotes, hogs and other vermin.
Friday evening I was sitting out when this ol' boy came in with about a dozen smaller hoglets.
Nailed him with the 325 WSM and 200 gr. Nosler Accubonds. Two inches below he ear on the entrance, and Bang/Flop
and as a bonus, got to run into Mr. NoShoulders on the way back!
a fair diamondback!
not too shabby a weekend! Ought to work just fine for a couple hat bands and a sheath insert or two!

georgeldNo nose, you did that one a favor by killing it.
Great eats, did you?
I'd like to have another snake dinner again.
Been thinking of going to the steak house for a plate of Rocky Mtn Oysters lately too.
Be careful out there you don't step on one of those big worms!

George,
He was quite spare in regards to the other hogs that were killed. They were quite fat and robust. He was a shade of his former self. I'd venture to say that he was probably fifty pounds heavier in his prime.
And yes, he needed to be put down.
Randall,
this was one of the few "paid hunts" that I have done/will do again. Met 25 other guys that post on 24hourcampfire for the second year. Good group of guys, we ate like kings, shot pistols, rifles, shotguns at clays, had a couple shooting competitions, and prizes for the biggest and smallest hog shot. Total IIRC was 60 hogs shot, a few coyotes, fox, bunnies and a 20"+ blackbuck. I am already looking forward to going again next year should the fates allow!

CrazyhorseconsultingSounds like a good group to hunt with. Hope the fates allow you to make next years get together.

Looks like someone tried to make a head shot n missed. I've read about such things and animals left to suffer til they either die, get eaten by coyotes or another hunter gets a fatal shot in.
PETA don't need to see this.

DesertRamNice hogs GW. It's amazing the kind of abuse those animals can take.

Bobby TomekWell done, GWB. Glad to see you burning a little powder on some piggies.

And that 9.3 x 74R certainly is a BEAUTIFUL rifle, even when propped against a gnarly ol' hog.

Good going, my friend...

Bwana_500Great GWB. Those Mannlicher style stocks are very nice
I like the 9.3s myself. I have shot pigs with my 9.3x62, although I subsequently sold it to a friend in South Africa.
I took my new 9.3x64 to a friends ranch in northern Australia. The 320gn Woodleigh I loaded worked very well in the scrubby country where the pigs were living.

Pa.FrankFrom the title, I was expecting that old 3 little pigs joke... for those of you that haven't heard it...
Once upon a time there were three little pigs. The straw pig, the stick pig and the brick pig.
One day this nasty old wolf came up to the straw pig's house and said, 'I'm gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.' And he did !!!
So the straw pig went running over to the stick pig's house and said, 'Please let me in, the wolf just blew down my house.' So the stick Pig let the straw pig in.
Just then the wolf showed up and said, 'I'm gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.' And he did !!!
So the straw pig and the stick pig went running over to the brick pig's house and said, 'Let us in, let us in, the big bad wolf just blew our houses down!'
So the brick pig let them in just as the wolf showed up The wolf said, 'I'm gonna huff and puff and blow your house down.' The straw pig and the stick pig were so scared! But the brick pig picked up the phone and made a call.
A few minutes passed and a big, black Caddy pulls up.
Out step two massive pigs in pin striped suits and fedora hats. These pigs come over to the wolf, grab him by the neck and beat the living shit out of him, then one of them pulled out a gun, stuck it in his mouth and fired, killing the wolf, then they tied cement blocks around his feet threw his sorry ass into the creek then they got back into their Caddy and drove off.
That was the Guinea pigs.
