Texas Hog Hunt
I had the pleasure to kill a few hogs in Texas a couple weeks ago with Rockin G Ranch in the Texas Panhandle. In all, my buddy and I were able to take 7 hogs in a 2 day period. I was lucky enough to take 5 of the 7.

The first evening yielded three hogs for me, while my buddy missed a shot at a big boar at last light.

This one didn't make it very far.

One of the hogs made it into the trees while I took a raking shot just before he disappeared. We found him the following morning about 10-15 yards from the last place I saw him.

The next evening only yielded one hog sighting for me.

The following morning hero picture.

In addition that morning, I was able to add another long-toothed critter to the tally list.

It was a great way to spend a couple days going over some business items and add a little fun shooting in the evenings.

looks like fun to me. Killin' hoglets goes a long way toward alleviating the symptoms of SDD (shooting deficit disorder).

Good on ya!

Graybird,
When I lived in Borger, hogs were never seen.
It may have been too dry for them back then.

In what part of the Panhandle were you hunting?

I used Erik's 270 Win with factory 130 grain Winchester Power Points because it already had a light set up attached to it. Additionally, I used my 243 Win with handloaded 80 gr Barnes TTSX.

My buddy used his 270 WSM with factory Nosler Accubonds.

The bait for my stand was 87 yards away, IIRC. The shot on the running hog was roughly 175 yards. The shot with the 243 was about 50 yards.

Both the 270 win and 270 WSM were Remington 700s. The 243 is an Interarms Mark X that my dad bought me almost 30 years ago. That rifle has accounted for a ton of game over its life span.

If you're referring to Kevin, it's 15 miles round trip from his place to mine.
