Just When You Think You've Got The Pigs Patterned
I've been knocking down pigs at this feeder since last April, and have had a game camera up all the time. I have one picture of a pig at the feeder during daylight hours in the last year, so I've been hunting them at night. Well, last night I sat the feeder with a nice moon and only saw one pig, about 150 yds away. I passed on the shot as I was sure it would come to the feeder--NOT!

Well, got home and checked the images on the game cam card, and darned if the pigs haven't patterned me. For 5 of the past 6 days they've been there during the early morning hours--in daylight! Guess that means I'll be up early instead of out late. If I can catch them wadded up under the feeder like that and have my 12-ga w/buckshot, should be able to knock down several.

One in this first picture ate so much it lay down for a nap or the next feeder spin.

The only thing I know for sure about pig hunting is, if you want to shoot one you have to be there when they are.

I've found that the only thing predictable about hogs is that they are unpredictable. SUre makes hunting them interesting, though.

Keep at it -- and keep poppin' 'em! Big Grin

Dust,

Those Trail Cam photos are nice - some good looking sausage candidates there!

You're right - Unpredictable is the operative word.

They obviously like that feeder so sooner or later you're gonna have another meeting ..... flame

Same here in Europe. After they've come to the corn a time or two the ground is (just like in your photo) trodden down to bare earth.

One time I sat a good portion of the night only to have 4 Porkers dash by at about 0700 as I was climbing outa the High Seat.

YouTube would love to have the video of me Cussing & Swearing, trying to fish some ammo outa my pocket, load the rifle and stay aboard the ladder simultaneously. Not for the light-hearted or a video for a Hunter Safety Course but I was pretty ticked-off at sacraficing all that valuable "Seat" time. Range woulda been about 25 feet!

Went to the ranch this evening to put corn in the feeder, mow the weeds inside the feeder pen, and check the game cam pics. I was especially interested in seeing if the gang that had been coming at dawn was still showing up for breakfast. Well, they aren't--different group is there now-between 10 pm and 5 am the last 8 nights, so it's back to sitting in the dark once I get back from my granddaughter's birthday this weekend.

On the good side, I spend about an hour fishing-one trip around the tank, and caught 3 bass and lost 3 more. Nice breeze, sun was behind the hill--pleasant evening.
