On the hunt
I checked the camera today and this old bully was there. I will be after him tomorrow. It hunted him today for a few hours but was dang cold. I will be able to spend about 5 hours tomorrow. Just been so busy getting ready for the show that was held last weekend that I have not been able https://www.flickr.com/photos/jerryfisk/16491045928/
I have not been able to figure how to post a photo from flicker yet, but I will work on it. Good photo too.

I got him but cannot post a good photo. Ok, I have a crappy photo but cannot post it either. I still use a flip phone, trying to do that, by yourself in the dark with a light does not produce the best photo.

I will provide a link and try to get how to post done this week.

I use a Dakota model 10 in a 7x57. This is the first kill with the 139 ballistic tips.

He came in from the slough toward the feeder, spooked at the feeder and hooked butt through the brush, circled staying in the brush and was trotting to back into the slough when he hit the opening. I got him in the neck, bang flop.
If he had hit the slough that would have been it. We still have a trace of snow and ice on the ground. https://flic.kr/p/roxqAq
He came in so close to dark that was in the process of putting the green light on the scope to hunt for a few more hours but the Lecia scope that I use gathered enough light that I saw him well enough. 10 minutes later though it would have been go green.
I tried for a on the ground shot but a black hog at dark with a flip phone just does not work.
I took him to a local out of work family and they met me at the drive way with knives.

My wife and I use a John Deere Gator with a electric tilt bed. I have a boat winch fitted to the rear of the bed so she can tilt it and winch up a big hog, tilt it back up and take it to camp. She did not get to go this afternoon so this puts me two hogs ahead of her.

Oh yeah, he weighed 248 on the scales, I would have guessed 275 looking at his in the snow photo.

JF,

From the Flickr pix it looked like that hoglet had some pretty decent tushes.

Luv it when a plan comes together.

Good that you had folks in mind for the pork.

Best,

GW, yes, he did. I am trying to get it set up where I can go again Saturday. I have photos of 5 other boars coming in fair regular on their own, 3 sows with puppies and 1 dry sow and 1 sow fixing to bear fruit.

In a couple of weeks we are going to try and get a few knifemakers together for a hunt. I am curious what each will bring to clean a pig with. I will post up the hunt and the knifemakers and what each knifemaker brings for their own knife use. I know Lin Rhea is going to be there, I have one of his axes that I use.

If yall want I can do a short review of each maker and ask they why he brought what. Some of you let me know if that is something you want to see or not.

If you had the time and inclination,I for one, would luv to see that.

I'd be particularly interested in seeing the axe in use, as I've been pondering a skinning axe.

Best.

Jerry,

that would be fantastic.

As a crappy novice knife maker, I would love to see that.
