LeopardtrackAdvice Needed on 1st NV Monocular Purchase
I figured that I would post here since I know that many of you hog hunters have experience with NV.
This would be my 1st NV purchase. I would like to get a monocular primarily for night-time viewing of wildlife....prob mounted to my helmet or even the harness. I might mount it on my AR too. I figure that I will go for the extra money now and get Gen3 but want to stay below $3,000.
I found "The Night Vision Guys" online and they seem to have several Gen 3's in that price range but I am not sure which to get. Different brands, mini monocular, non-gated, gated, WPT, etc.
I figured that I would reach out to you all here to get straight advice before I speak to people wanting to sell me something

Any advice that you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks! Frank

K EvansFrank: I have an Exelis Mod NEPVS14-17 and it is simply amazing, also, it came with a flip-up headband mount and it is easily mounted on an AR type rifle, sighting options are available too...but it wasn't cheap.

Thanks Karl! Yes, that's about what I'm looking to get. The Night Vision Guys have several similar looking ones on their site that are give or take $2,500. I tried to call them but kept getting the ans machine. I'm wondering what the difference between them is.
It says that they are Non-Gated which may be why they are in the $2,500 range. I know that non-gated means that the unit won't adjust itself to a unexpected white light...but I dont know how important that feature will be to me.
Maybe someone else will chime in with their expertise?

glocker17I picked up a used PVS-14 last year, autogated Pinnacle table with a tiny blem. Its a parts bin type of deal but worked really well and was cheap. I done think i would attack it to the AR as the units are not really made for that type of shock, I know you can do it but I stuck with the helmet mount, and a green spot light on the rifle when its time to shoot.
