We're heading down to new mexico for a aoudad hunt in february. You guys all seem to have a hellova good time hunting pigs, and that's something we don't have up here in the north country. We'd be coming down hwy 54 cutting accross the north west part of texas. Is there some places we could hunt up some of them thar oinkers that time of year??

I have not heard of any pigs that far north. I have heard of some pigs and big ones from the Lubbock area eat west and south. I knew a guy who used to live at Brownfield, southwest of Lubbock who showed me some pictures of some good pigs they had taken. Hwy 54 goes through open ranch country where in a GOOD, WET year the ranchers will run about 15-20 head a section. When you get down around Lubbock on the cap rock it is mostly in cultivation. If you have time check out Crowell, Texas there was an outfitter there who used to advertise 4-600 pounders regularly. a few more details would be helpful. Are you coming into Amarillo on I 40 then south on I 27 to Hwy 54?

probably we'd be picking it up in kansas, cutting thru just the NW corner of texas, but its no big deal to make a detour either

Try the Nail Ranch in Albany Texas. Might be a bit east for you but worth it.

Assuming you arrange for a hunt in Texas, you should probably do it on the way home so you can ice and save the pig meat. It is better tasting than aoudad by far.

Plenty of hogs around Amarillo...

We have some decent hog hunting, but we may be too far east for you. We are willing to try and put something together if you are interested, but you might find something that would be more convinient to your travel plans.

Doubless I had no idea the pigs had migrated that far north. I knew there were some pigs up there on the river bottoms, but did not have a clue they had made it that far north.

Swifter, I have a daughter in Amarillo dating a man from there. He tells me they kill hogs every trip out on property his friends own. Part of it is in Palo Duro Canyon, part of it is up on the flats. The hogs are on the flats... He tells me six or eight a trip is not uncommon. The sad part is they kill them and let them lay. I see that as a waste...

Doubless, I used to live in Amarillo back in the early 70's after a time in the service. At that time, hogs were not up that far north. But the Coyotes were a hoot to shoot. call'm in to the truck and shoot with a shotgun. I live down at Lake Tanglewood, south of Amarillo. I know the hogs have moved up to the Childress and Turkey areas towards Lubbock in th eriver Bottoms. Wished I could figure out the uploading
