I don't know about red deer, but I've seen most species of deer in Texas (whitetails and exotics) leave when hogs show up.

The consensus opinion is that hogs compete for food more aggressively than deer; a increase in the hog population almost always corresponds with a decrease in the deer population.

Anyway, that's the general belief in this part of the world.

I have observed deer running away when hogs come in. We have started putting hog panels around some of our feeders.

We have a stronger population on red deer that we have on hogs. Hogs can be controled with our strong winters (now -25c) . And red deer is more suitible to ours climate than hogs.

Farmer John,

The hogs make great sausage.Taken them out if legal. The will not help your deer population in any manner!

What I've observed at my feeders is that the hogs will run off the Whitetails but the Red deer, Axis and Fallow will tolerate them.....usually. We don't, however, have a large hog population on our place.

The next pic after this one shows the deer running off (must have deleted it)

This is just what I've witnessed on my place. Your results may vary.

Regards,
Scott

Change the timer on your feeder. I usually see the hog at night and the deer during the day on my trail camera pics.

Feeders are set for 7:30am and 4:30pm. Not sure why I'd want to change the times...?

Dall85,
we have lot of red deer here. I like red deer but they do a lot of damage on spruce trees.
