Bobby Tomek.309 JDJ and a massive boar/blood trail pic as well
I woke up from a migraine med nap just in time to find an unwelcome Thanksgiving visitor in he field. I was wondering why the deer were no-shows for a couple of days, and then I found out: another big, aggressive boar had been working the area. But he made the mistake of showing up with a little daylight left this evening, and a 150 grain Ballistic Tip from my .309 JDJ took care of things in a hurry. From 228 yards, the BT shredded the top of the heart and wrecked both lungs. The hog still managed to run 35-40 yards before folding, but anyone could have followed this blood trail. It was impressive, to say the least -- despite the fact that the exit itself was barely nickel-sized.
The photo shows blood splatter some 8-10 feet after the boar absorbed the Ballistic Tip. If you look closely, even the top left portion of the photo shows spray high up on a limb. The velocity at impact should have been around 2240 fps. Suffice to say, I love how these BTs perform at modest speeds.
The photo was hurried and does not do justice to the size of this boar.
