Mother and child reunion
Did my 3rd hog hunt at the Thompson Ranch near Crystal City, Texas with the 24hourCampfire group. Twenty-six guys shooting pistolas, clays and cold bore 1 shot contest, libations, good eats and lots o' hoglets.

Some big pigs shot. Either I lost my mojo or was in the wrong place at the right time cause.......

mine were rather mini.

two 308's and and a twofer-mini with the 22 mag.

But I did win the "dink" contest.

ya!

Takes a better shot to hit those micro hogs!

I have been known to select for crock pot pigs myself. A little onion soup base and a hand full of pepperoncini peppers in a slow cooker makes them a target of choice!

Sounds like you had a great time.

I have been seeing a bunch of "Cottontail" size piglets around the area lately, been threatening to start carrying the 12 gauge with some 4 or 6 steel shot duck loads and making covey shots, take out half a dozen at a time.

For culinary purposes, give me a little one every time.

The picture reminds me of a statement from a Texas Agrilife employee during a hog control class. "Hogs average about 8 little ones per litter - of which 12 survive to maturity."

If you shoot the sow, do the hoglets likely don't make it to maturity?

It depends on the density of hogs in the area and the size of the piglets. Orphaned piglets can and do join up with other sounders and if the piglets are large enough, say around 30 pounds each or larger and 4 to 6 are running together, there is a fairly good chance they will make it.
