Re: Aiming point for hogs?
My first choice is the head shot.

Hog hunting is an absolute passion of mine and I would absolutely vote the head shot for several reasons, #1 of which they are often black or very dark and present the damdest silouette youve ever seen making the distinction of shoulder/neck difficult. BUT THE EYES are easy to find and make a great aim point. Just before I pull the trigger I'll usually pull about an inch behind the eye and let me tell you they drop RIGHT THERE. Secondly no damaged meat, (espicially the tenderloin area) I have seen too many hit in the shoulder, heart/lung run even with a 220gr bullet from a RUM. These animals are tough and who wants to track a wounded pissed off hog. I try to shoot only Females which are easly to spot by the lack of the furry protrusion when broadside to you. Great eating and no funky glands to worry about. Tenderloin is awesome, smoke the hams-incredible and make sausage that will make you forget about having deer sausage ever again. No compalints from guests about gamey flavor...thatw as our familys Thankgiving and Christmas meat. GOOD LUCK

Mike,
you are in CLC? I graduated HD there, quite some time ago.

Do you know Lake Houston Gun Club? for you, it would be beltway north (towards shipchannel) over the SC, past i10, turn right on garrett road. They've got pistol, 50, 100, 200 ranges, and don't might off hand shots.

Let me know when you want to go.

The going hunting is secondary to a business trip. Going bird hunting on Sunday and then pig hunting the following Sunday. Sure looking forward to it. We'll see what happens.

I spent part of the day today with Okie Newton in Texas City. He's a pig hunter. He has a mount of a real 385 boar ... damned impressive beast! Got some good education in aiming point and handing of meat. Enjoyed the visit. (Thanks Okie!) I think he kinda enjoyed seeing the Chapuis and some of the knives I make too.

Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. Hope to be able to meet some of the other fellas from AR while I'm here.
