Harold R. Stephens
3rd Annual Marshall Stephens Memorial South Texas Pig Hunt
I lost my Dad March 22, 2009 and this weekend was suppose to be our annual pig hunt in Dilley, Texas. I had secured a date this year during the turkey season and my Dad was really excited about going to South Texas to get the usual pig and get a chance at a Rio. I decided that I would still go and my BIL from Keller and a friend from work joined me. My friend also broought his Dad, FIL and BIL so it turned out to be kinda a family hunt anyway. I was glad for the company. The seven of us shot 11 pigs, 4 turkeys, 1 coyote and a bobcat. I shot the bobcat at about 160 yards, found blood where it went into the brush, trailed the blood as it circled back to the sendero then all the blood trail stopped. We spread out to see if we could pick up the blood trailwhile Adolfo the ranch hand continued on the same track. He found cat tracks as it crossed back across the sendero and then lost the tracks in the brush. I hate loosing a wounded animal but it didn't look like I hit it that well after all.

I also shot a turkey for my Dad, my second turkey in my life.

I also shot my biggest pig to date, a 255# boar. I'm 6'5" and 220# for scale. Had shot a 225# pig at the same feeder last year. Shot with my 7MM STW Savage 112 BVSS, the DOD (Deleverer of Death).

Was a great weekend and I know Dad was with me and would have had a good weekend as well.

Harold, I'm glad you decided to go on the hunt despite the circumstances. I'm sure your dad would have wanted it that way. I am sorry to hear about your dad's passing.

Great report! Congratulations on the successful hunt!

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Harold. It hurts to say goodbye.

Glad you decided to go hunting after all. I'm sure your Dad would have approved.

Nice piggie!
