Took a kid on a donated hunt
I donate some parent/child hunts to some SCI chapters. This past year , I donated to the GA chapter and the LA chapter . Thus far , I have been really lucky . All have been very nice people. The hunts have been very successful.

The last hunt is still ongoing . Thus far the young man had killed 7 hogs. He wounded another . He missed 3. He also shot some miscellaneous coons and possums. Caught a pile of fish as well. He thinks I am crazy as hell as I caught a boar and castrated it .

They raid turkey nests . That puts them on the hit list. In addition, some studies show that possums do not eat ticks .

Larry,
In the time I have known you i have learnt you are one of the most "giving" guys alive and almost always deeply involved in some project for helping or bettering fellow hunters. And I must gratefully acknowledge several small kindnesses received from you over the years with never a mention of any payment required. I'm glad to see you still at it and helping young hunters enjoy their first forays into the world of hunting. Well done sir, and thankyou, I say.
Now, that young man saying you're crazy may have hit on something I've suspected for a while - haha but maybe that applies to all we hunters to some degree Big Grin

Thank you sir.

I think it is an absolute must to get these kids involved .

On other matters , we found the wounded hog the next day . It didn’t go far .

.

Hats off to you Larry from this side of the pond! Sadly this side you cannot legally hunt before you are 16. Germany that is. UK and elsewhere is different.

Best, Charlie

Not only a future hunter developed.

That's a fine looking place you have there too.

I have no clue what you do with all the dead hogs.

This would be a wonderful time to teach these kids how to properly butcher and process their game.
That its expected to save all edible meat etc. Hardly practical in the short time, and quantities you shoot.

It would be great to make "poachers cuts" and save the back straps & hams in coolers for them to take home.

Maybe save a side or two of ribs for a bbq meal during or the last evening.

Very good of you providing these kids a great start hunting.

Hog hunting place up the road had a couple young guys learning how to butcher.
No wages, just worked for tips from hunters.
They got the meat for their families some hunters didn't want.

Thank you for providing this service.

George:

The hogs are non-native vermin. They destroy a lot of native habitat for the native wildlife. The biologist tells me that we must kill 70% of the existing population every single year to stop growth in the population. So, yes, we do hammer a lot of hogs.

Bar hogs are always processed for our consumption. These are the best eating. Many if not almost all of the sows are given away and/or processed by us. Often to those in need. We always skin and quarter them at minimum. The boars are often not consumed by humans especially those old smelly ones. They can be absolutely horrible. I'd rather eat a tire with barbeque sauce. They are that bad.
