AglifterWarthog
I'm taking a 45-70 to Zambia, and I want to use is on a warthog -- what's a good load? I'm taking plenty of 540 gr. Garrett solids, but I'm pretty sure I need something that expands for hogs -- I'm thinking either a 420 gr. Woodleigh softpoint from Garrett, or the Hornady Leverevolution. I still be taking all of the three loads for various animals, but I'm wondering which, or something else, should I use on the warthogs.

HuffWhatever you use for whitetails and hogs here in texas will work fine on warthogs.
What other game are you hunting in Zambia? Taking any other rifles? Please post a full report when you back. I'll be interested to hear how the .45-70 does.

surestrikeI've killed quite a few ferral hogs with my .45-70. Anything will work on warthog just like a ferral. However an expander will give more staifactory results. I like the good old 405 gr Remington bullet launched at about 1800FPS.
Your Woodliegh softpoints should be fine as well. But pretty much anything you shoot out of your .45-70 will kill warthogs.
