And here I always thought your method was for polar bears...It doesn't freeze much in these parts, but when it does, I'll try it out on a hog!
I can attest to hogs' preference for the fruity bouquet of Big Red, mixed with corn or dog food. Another thing that works is a little diesel mixed in with the bait. Not sure why, but it works. The only thing I can think of is that they like rubbing on telephone poles, maybe for the creosote, so they like the smell.
For trapping hogs, the best bait is a sow. If you trap one, keep her fed and watered and she'll draw in plenty of others.
