Croatian Boar

Gerry MerryCroatian Boar
Two of my pictures from a November 2006 driven boar shoot in croatia; He is a 228 kilo Gold Medal tusk boar shot in Petrova Gora near Karlovac. He was my first driven boar and as you can see the .30-06 R93 with open sights did the trick with 180 gn factory Federal loads. He was taken at about 60 metres on the run.
I reckon this could get kind of addictive, already planning to go next year and have just got a double in .375 to go with.

Hog KillerGerry, how about some details. Cost of hunting in Croatia? Bringing your own rifle into the country? How long were the cutters on your boar? (outside the gumline) Did you hunt for several days and hogs or just the one?
Thanks
Keith

Claret_DabblerGreat looking pig Gerry.
Spill the beans on the trip.
Always looking for a new destination.
How did you find shooting with Irons only?
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Gerry MerryGuys,
this was a 2 day driven hunt with 9 guns, it cost £500.00 sterling per day all accomodation and food included during stay and airport transfers. This was 1 of 3 that I shot over the 2 days, however I missed 4 others, where we shot wasn't about numbers, it was in state forest (52000 acres) and was part of there annual cull numbers. 2 other guns also got shots at boar a similar size to mine but missed. There is no extra charge for trophy fees on driven boar. Didn't measure his cutters outside of the gums but he's a CIC gold medal.
Shooting with irons was peachy, a real joy, I would like to try with a low mag scope next year.

Claret_DabblerGerry, welcome to the site.
Who arranged the trip or was it a private affair?
Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Gerry MerryA group of guns got together and arranged it through lasarotta (www.lasarotta.co.uk) with a guy named Bogdan Srejic, his contact is on the website, tell him Gerry Meredith gave you his details and he will look after you. This trip I had wasn't about numbers, a team of 9 guns will shoot a maximum of 11 Boar a day but you get the chance to shoot big old boys like him if you are lucky. If you want numbers he can arrange shoots in different areas where you can have more of a promise of numbers.
Damn its exciting shooting driven boar though!

WhitworthGerry, I want to thank you for your prompt response. I will contact them.
At what distances did you shoot your three boars? I like open sights for up-close and personal work. I feel I can acquire a target more quickly than with a scope.
Did you rent the firearm or did you bring your own?

Gerry MerryWhitworth
the second boar was shot at 3 metres away, she was running at me at full speed only my first shot turned her. I missed four more at less than 5 metres away all going full speed. The final sow I shot was with my 8x56 S&B mounted at 100 metres away running up hill ( 3 shots to stop her and all 3 hit ) she was a large 150 kilo sow, and a beauty.
We travelled with our own firearms from the UK and the croatian police were more than helpful.

Congratulations - a fantastic result. The East Euro boar do have a very pronounced elongated snout. It brings memories back of when i shot mine in Hungary almost 2 years ago under the moon with snow all around. I would be very interested in knowing how long the tusks are i am sure they will go atleast 21 cm. Is there anyway of finding out ie are you having it shoulder mounted?
Thanks for posting

I'm having it shoulder mounted but with false tusks, the real ones will be mounted on a plaque and sent back to me in the new year, I will let you know what they measure!
