Live OakCorn still piling up
Went to check game cams and noticed a few tracks on the edge of the feeder pen. A lone pig was supplementing his acorns with some stale corn! Had Company all weekend, last night was free! Did not take long for the mosquitos to show up, out came the Off! A lone buck came in right after the feeder went off. I had taken my weedeater out there and cut a trail between where I park my ATV and the tower. The Land Owner does it right and rotation grazes, with all the rain the Love grass is 4 foot tall. In between the bunches of love grass the grass burrs are fierce! I cut a little in front of the feeder pen but ran out of time. When the buck came in I know that was a mistake. I could not see his head when he put it down to eat. Going to be tough to see a short legged pig! About 10:30 I had had enough of the mosquitos buzzing in my hearing protection. One more scan of the pen with binos and saw movement! Took a few minutes to get a positive ID and for him to present a shot. I have been waiting for a "target" for some 416 350 gr Hawk bullets. This was not ideal but a pig in the reticle is a pig in the reticle! Touched it off and could see nothing! Sand was wet so no dust and grass too high to see the pig. Normally I go for the pumpkin (heart lung) but if he had run I doubt I could have recovered him in the "long grass"( does sound African!). As you can see I hit him behind the right ear and the exit was behind the lower left shoulder. 11:00 pm I did not take the time to examine the exit well but the Hawk appear to have expanded. Sure it exited! Hey its a 150# pig and a 416 Ruger!!
