scope light filters
Heading to tx in feb for some night hog hunting and plan on taking a scope light in case the clouds cover the moon. Friends have told me the red filters will spook hogs and they've had better luck with no filter. My question, is there anybody who has tried other colored filters (green, etc.) and which will no spook the piggies.

Stevo,
Red lights work just fine. The trick is NOT to point it directly at them then turn it on. They seem to spook from the sudden light/brightness change. Point it up, turn it on, then slowly lower it down onto the critters. My red filter is actually kinda pink. Mine is an off-brand spotlight for which there were no ready-made filters. So I made one from a plastic clipboard. It works just fine.
Good luck on your hunt,,,,,,,,,Bug.

It's the little things that matter.

Another plan is to have a soft light, maybe LED's truned on under the feeder.

The less dramatic transition from the lighted area to the dark area the better.

The pigs are not upset by the soft light, or so some say.

While I have shot some pigs in the dark with just a good scope... and some with a "nightscope"... usually after dard is reserved for drinking Scotch. Big Grin
