still rolling: DVH 30-30 & Barnes 110 grainer take another boar

Well, this guy made the mistake of showing up tonight at a time I happened to be stepping outside to check on a fur baby and convince him it's time to come inside. I had a slight quartering presentation, put the illuminated dot of the Docter 2.5-10x50 on the front of the shoulder and sent a 110 grain Barnes TAC-TX Blackout bullet downrange. Leaving the 24" Van Horn 30-30 barrel at 2859 fps, the Barnes flew true, ripped through the onside shoulder, separated the heart from its plumbing and heavily damaged the lungs before exiting between the second and third-to-last ribs, taking out a chunk of each in the process and leaving a quarter-sized hole in the hide. The chest cavity could best have been described as "sloshy" with coagulating blood and damaged tissue in abundance.

Despite no CNS impact, the hog simply folded on the spot, which has been quite the common occurrence with both the 110 and 120 grain Barnes Blackout bullets and the Hornady 110 grain GMX Blackout projectile.

If you guys haven't had the chance to try this bullet, its heavier, boat-tailed brother or the Hornady, be sure and give them a whirl. It breathes new life into the likes of the 30-30, .30 Herrett, etc. As much as I love and respect the performance of the Ballistic Tips, I have to admit these specially-softened monos are in a league of their own when driven a bit beyond their design windows.

PS-Pardon the blood in the photos. We tried to wipe most of it away, but it was in abundance and all over -- from the neck to mid-body.

Very nice work Bobby!! And Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

This weekend I get in the blind with my Ruger .30/30...the past 4 days the hogs have been coming in during daylight so I need to take advantage of it

High Velocity with light bullets to the chest
seems to make mush out of animals insides.

Thanks for sharing, glad those night lights
are working so well for you.

You have a jewel of a load there. No need to change it. The bullet is better than the best cup and core. I have been using the 150 gr X in several forms as they have progressed in development. They never failed me. Even the one that went through an unseen hedge sapling (osage orange) before it hit the doe. She didn't go far. Great fun around Thanksgiving. Did you save a couple of loins? Be Well, Packy.

Nice meat-er BT. A good candidate for some Whattaburger-like burgers. I've eaten WB's and think their taste is similar to young hog burger.
Happy hunting or should I say - thumpin'.
Wish I was there. Deer season sucks so far here in PA.
