dustofferGood Night
All of you eagle-eyed folks look at this picture and tell me what's missing.
And, how many pigs total are in the picture?

dustofferBobby--you got one right. Now for the bonus--how many pigs in the picture?
And, what else is missing?

Geedubyano corn under the feeder,
no dead pig under the feeder,
can't tell whether she's pregnant or how many shoats she is carrying.

KabluewyThe right ear of the sow is missing. What's seen there instead is a brown piglet.

dustofferThere are several "other" missing things--the shoat's 4 siblings (used to be 7, but I have popped/trapped 3 of them), and you can't see the entrance/exit wound from the arrow she caught last night about 9:10 pm. Only went about 80-90 yds but into the thick stuff. If she was prego, the foetuses were small enough not to be too noticeable.

Bobby TomekNice catch, KB. I missed that altogether.
dustoffer - Thanks for adding a little light-hearted fun with the photo. Hopefully you are out hunting as I type this...

I lost out on an oppportunity this morning thanks to our faithful dog Charlie. Early this morning, while the twins were polishing off breakfast, I noticed a boar very near the house -- closer than hogs usually get. I would have had a 100-110 yard chip shot on a big boar. But Charlie saw him, too, and took off after him before I could get set. Because of Charlie, I had no safe shot, and then the boar turned to face him, which I feared as Charlie has lived a sheltered life (well, at least from hogs

) and has no idea what a hog could do to him. So I fired a shot into the air, and – thank goodness – the hog took off. Otherwise we probably would have lost a wonderful companion as this boar had very notable cutters.
But maybe he'll return one day...

KabluewyYou guys are causing me to miss Texas. Well maybe I won't miss it too much until things cool off in the fall. But I sure would like the convenient opportunity to take one of those piglets every now and then for the smoker or grill. Yum-yum.
I guess I'll have to settle for smoked salmon.

dustofferBobby--got to be a little humor in life--it isn't all serious.
Not out hunting, but I did set the trap last night and caught two more piglets--20# & 25#. Momma started with 8 and is now down to 3.

Since that rain last week, they've rooted the pasture all to heck too--so landowner is on my case--got to go shoot some more hogs I guess. Dang the bad luck.

georgeldThanks for bringing up a funny time in my childhood.
In the early '50's when I was ten or less. Dad bought a roan color sow about 150lbs to feed out. Us kids named her "Rosie".
One day I was with Mom slopping her while Dad was at work. She left the feed shed door open and "Rosie" promptly headed in there. Mom was in the pen with her, yelling and slapping her rump w/o results. Then she grabbed the tail to pull her out. I was outside watching.
Mom pulled her tail off trying to get her out. I can still see the shocked look on her face when she turned toward me stunned looking at that ring tail in her hand. I don't remember much about it after that. I know they went ahead and fed her out and we ate her. But, that's about all I can recall.
