Bobby Tomeklarge sow by moonlight w/ 7-30 Waters
Taking advantage of the lightly-diffused illumination of the full moon, I took a look outside several times tonight and finally got lucky. After watching hogs for several minutes without being able to get a shot, this sow finally stopped in a clearing at around 170 yards. From a sandbagged rest, I put the #4 reticle where it would do the most good and touched off a round.
The 140 grain C-T Ballistic Silvertip, which I recently chronographed just above the 2600 fps mark (LVR powder) from the 24" barrel, flew true, impacting the broadside hog tightly behind the shoulder, ripping up the top of the heart, damaging a portion of the lungs and then exiting tightly behind the opposite shoulder. The exit was small, perhaps the size of a dime.
After the shot, the hog covered maybe 15-18 yards before dropping.

AkshooterThanks for sharing this. Good timing for me because after decades of wanting to build a contender carbine and several years thinking I wanted to add 7x30 to my contender pistol collection I finally just finished up building a 7x30 carbine. Now I need to go out and get something with mine. Thanks for showing me it can be done.

AkshooterBobby thanks for the info, No I haven't even shot it yet due to my hectic schedule during summer. I put this carbine together by ordering parts and etc and building it a little here and there after work. Only thing left to do is a sling base on the barrel. I'll probably change the scope sometime in the future but for now it has an old 3x Leupold. I'm having trouble posting a pic ( something I've done any times in the past) but I can post the link. Here it is.
