Long Range 9.3x62

Jeff SullivanLong Range 9.3x62
Even with Annie feeling poorly, she was anxious to go out looking for hogs this evening, and as I crossed a creek from one pasture into another, I saw "something" moving through the grass about 150 yards away. I had brought my R-93 Tracker without a scope, but I put my Swarovski illuminated 1.25-4x scope in a QD mount in my pack on my 4 wheeler. I stopped and put my scope on my gun, and I braced on my handlebars to see exactly what "it" was. "It" was a big black hog with a long tail. I estimated the distance to be about 150 yards, and I aimed at the top of the neck and squeezed the trigger. At the shot, I heard the "thwap" of the bullet hitting the hog, and it disappeared. Annie and I road down to where I thought the hog had been, and it wasn't there. I turned Annie loose and let her do her thing. She immediately headed further across the pasture, and I called her back thinking I knew where the hog was. She headed back to where she had been before, and I finally followed her and found the hog. He was a 225-250 pound boar. The hog was actually about 40 yards further than I had estimated and was an honest 175 yard shot. Dang, that 9.3 packs a wallop!
Way to go Annie! You did it again!
WTG! Congrats to you and Annie on a nice hog!

Jeff SullivanJuan
I have killed 4 hogs now with my 9.3x62 using loads with 285 gr PRVI bullets, and the gun/caliber/load has performed flawlessly. I have killed quite a few with a 308 as well, and in my experience, the 9.3 is much more forgiving if the shot placement is not quite perfect. With my 308, I used loads with 165 or 170 gr Corelokt bullets, and I never lost a hog (thanks to Annie).

juanpozziJeff here the most popular caliber is the 7.62 or 308 i carry a 308cz in my 4x4 ,so i used it for hundreds of pigs ,besides that my clients always rent it and i have many ammo because of my military shooting courses.BUT YOU ARE RIGTH i killed many boars in POLAND with NORMA plastic points with great results on running big boars with a lot of adrenaline ,GANYANA used it for elephants ,buffalos and hippos on dry land.
