Whitworth¨Tame¨Wild Boar in Bosnia
Was visiting some folks last week in Bosnia. Among their many pets were three wild boar that had been raised from young when their mother was shot buy a poacher. Just thought I would share a few pics of them. It was the closest I have been to wild boar unarmed! They were pretty friendly, they get along well with the domestic hogs, and will eat out of the owner's hand.......

WhitworthLOL 700 nitro!! I was thinking the same thing when I walked up on them! The owner has two domestic sows on the property and they all get along famously. Although, they would look lovely mounted on the wall of my den -

EXPRESSI've reared 4 boars over the last 9 years, 1 was just too mean and dangerous which I set aside for fattening up, the other 3 have been great!
At this moment I only have 1, a 3 year old boar which is very playful and sociable, too much so if anything. He doesn't realize his strength or the fact that he can hurt you with his tusks so he has to be kept in a fenced area.
Non of them ever got along with dogs but they are fine with other animals.
Pigs are great pets, and in some ways better than dogs, in my opion!

WhitworthExpress, any photos available? I will post some more from my subsequent visit tomorrow.

Thanks for your post about your own experience's with them.
Reading the first post 'feeding from their hands"
I was already thinking: "soon as they get big enough, they'll EAT the hands that feed 'em too".
When I was a kid, the folk fattened out a marroon colored sow we named Rosy. She was head first into the grain bin and nothing to grab onto. So Mom grabbed her tail and promptly pulled it off flush.
I don't recall much after that except we ate her later. I may have been about 6-7 y/o.

WhitworthGeorge, these hogs aren't the least bit aggressive around people and are actually a bit shy. Different story around the dogs though! I watched two of the hogs rough up one of the dogs on the property -- they didn't hurt it, but they sent their message loud and clear!

Hawaiian_HunterVERY cool pictures, thanks!
I found my Lucille in mountains above my home about a year and a half ago, an orphaned rut she weighed in at 2 pounds max. She's 200+ pounds now. Here's some videos of her in backyard mostly working hard making a nest, very meticulous in choice if twigs and grass but also in placement of each twigs and stem.

EterryPardon my language, but those Bosnian wild boars must be real pussys. I agree with Juan Possi, we trapped a sow with 11 piglets 4 years ago, sold the sow and tried to raise the piglets. Them little bastards were wild as out house rats and would bite anything you put in the pen, including you. We decided to ring their noses and cut the males when they were about 4 months old.....too late. We both got bit, got 4 of them ringed but the largest boar jumped the 4 1/2 foot fence and got out. We cornered it and it charged me, only hog to ever do so. I was armed with a long handled shovel and can tell you it was like hitting a telephone pole when the shovel connected with its snout. We had fresh barbeque pork for supper.
Eterry
Good luck and good shooting.

EterryThe ones we trapped were still sucking on the sow when we got them, about the size of new-born hound dog pups. We tried to hand raise them but they wouldnt have it. No offense and probably used too strong a term, was an attempt at humor.

WhitworthDon't be silly -- no offense taken! Some hogs just have attitude and some don't!
