Merkel 141, 8 x 57 JRS.
Figiured this rifle would be as close to Africa as this critter would come. Did not want a big bore that would detach my retinas, but would roll a hoglet!
ya!

That is a perfect leopard rifle over bait from a blind! The scope works very well for fading light from a blind, and would be a perfect follow-up rifle for a cat that got into the weeds after being knocked out of the bait tree. It would also be perfect for all African planes game in open country, as well as close in bush for black bear over bait .
I have a Merkel 140 9.3x74 s/s double, and I wish I had a double rifle chambered for the 8X57JR and I have a cape gun chambered for that round that has taken a truck load of wild hogs in Texas, and it has never taken a second shot on any of them. Dropped in their tracts in every case. Very good choice for anything in north America, has to offer as well, as cats and plains game in Africa!
