dustofferOne Down Tonight
Winds changed for the best and temps are down just a little, plus the hogs started coming a bit earlier so I went for a sit tonight. In the seat around 8:30 and not too hot although winds were not 10-12 mph as forecast. Feeder spun at 9, then spun again 30 minutes later. I was feeling pretty confident but had decided if nothing showed by 10:45 I was moving to my other seat as the folding chair with the triangular seat is too uncomfortable for long sits. I started my relocation and was about half-way to the other chair and scanned the feeder area and there he was. Well, I just continued on to the other chair and got the shooting sticks up and took a peek--nothing! I had cleared a couple of shooting lanes 2 weeks ago so I have a pretty wide area I can view. Then I see a pig nose then head come into view from behind a big tree. Get the AR on the sticks, safety off and I could see some small sticks/limbs between us so I decided to wait until he came into the clear lane. Then he left, but then he was back, and finally offered me a clear shot. Put the reticle behind his ear (quartering away) and let him have it---bang, flop on his belly. Then in about 30 seconds he rolled over and started the pedal routine. I watched until he was quiet, then walked up and checked him out--didn't weigh him but I'm guessing 120+

georgeldGood piggy!
Looks like a big head and thin
body on this one. Did he look sick?
Good shooting too. What was the range?

Bobby TomekWell done! Yep, I agree with your 120+ guesstimate and think 125 or so sounds about right...maybe even nudging towards 130 as he looks be getting some girth in (or depth to) the shoulders.

dustofferGeorge—the range was about 85 yds.
My weight was a guess as I was too lazy to unload, assemble and set up the hoist. I should find a nearby tree where I could rig a hoist and just leave it in place for convenience sake. My first impression when I walked up was “big front end, little behind” and when I got him out for his portrait even more so.

Live OakNice going! I have shot a few "hatchet" boars before. That's just the some of them are built!
