shanksponyFinally, a bit of pig hunting
Its been a while since I've visited this forum, mainly because nothings interesting has been happening in the way of pighunting for me for a while. This week broke that spell/curse though well and truly.
First hunt was with the bow, I was takeing a rifle hunter for a hunt, but had my bow just in case. We spotted a reasonable boar, and it was in a good position for the bow, so my mate generously offered me the shot. I removed my boots and crept in closebut out of sight as the pig was in a small steep sided swamp.
Comming to the top of the bank, I looked down to find the boar right under my feet, range, 2 meters! the arrow went down through the top of his back and out his brisket sliceing his heart top to bottom on the way. He made it 20 meters before succumbing, a nice eating boar of 120lb dressed.
Next night was a couple of newbies, a father son team who had never been hunting before and wanted to see what it was like.
I took my rifle this time, and sure enough, right on dark, a huge mother of a boar walked out of the bush and headed our way. I like to get a bit of excitement, so instead of shooting straight away, i motioned the team to follow me and we creapt up within 50 yards before he russled us, A quick shot between the eyes when he raised his head our way and he was down for the count.
This guy strained my back a touch, I never weighed him, as there was some people from the local Marae wanting pork for a funeral,so I donated him to them, but guess he would go 180lb dressed. He sure made me sit down a few times. His sheild was over 2 inch's thick, a real old battler, pigs like this dont get this big without the probability that they have done some serious damage to the local pigdog teams.

GeedubyaWhat is the old Clint Eastwood line,
"A man's got to know his limitations".
Seeing that pix, you're a better man than I.

scottfromdallasSo that's where the term "piggy back ride" came from.

Bob NisbetI can hardly immagine the strength necessary to stand up with that guy on your back!
Was it done by sitting between the pig's legs, then pulling the front legs over your shoulders and then leaning forward to stand up?

shanksponyHi Bob, essentially you drag the pig to a small bank or steeper peice of ground and position it upright at the top, then slide your arms through the tied legs like a back pack and lean forward until the weight comes on your back.
If you have to do it from a sitting position its very hard, usually on to your hands and knees first, then find someone or something to help you upright.

packrattusnongratusShanks Pony I'm glad you broke the drought. I haul my squirrel kills that way. But it is easier to get up from a sitting position.
