" Solutions sought for dealing with feral pigs in Sullivan Co NY"
They have to ask ???

Anyway about 30 have been seen in the western part of my county .The officials want to stop the problem before it becomes unmanageable .
I've got a fine 45-70 and 44Mag revolver to deal with them.
We do have lots of tree huggers and eco-wackos here too unfortunately.

WhitworthThat's the way I like to deal with them! Hogs need lead poisoning!

GeedubyaThirty to forty,
Let's see, can breed at six months, up to 13 shoats per litter, up to 3 litters per year. Say 30% survival rate. Do the math, you're too late.

StonecreekFeral hogs are quite easily killed with either a .45-70 or a .44 magnum (as well as a .223, for that matter). So are mosquitos. And controlling the numbers of either by shooting is about equally as effective.
A "good" drought like we've recently experienced in much of Texas seems to be the most effective control of both.

It depends on their proximity to each other. The current thought process from a wildlife biologist friend of mine is that if the numbers are not high and they are close in proximity, then make attempts to attract them in the highest numbers possible and trap and kill them. Individual shooting just makes the rest smarter and harder to find/kill.
Not saying shoot on sight wouldn't be my preferred method, but that is the current thought. My friend is in Georgia and they are way beyond that, but that is exactly the philosophy Missouri is going to...If you see them while hunting other species, fine, shoot them, if not, don't go hunting for them. It may interfere with MDC activities on trapping and killing.

georgeldIF there's 30 in a bunch as it sounds.
They had to come from somewhere.
Where was that, and how many more will be following? Where's the other bunches hiding out?
Yep, you're too late already.
