Hey all! I need to know if anyone who has killed a wild pig recently would be willing to send me 20-30 hairs for some research I am working on. Preferably from Arizona, New Mexico, SW Colorado or NW Texas but any truly feral pig would be helpful. The hairs need to be somewhat frsh (the last year or so) and NOT treated (i.e. taxidermy work--->formaldehyde wreaks havoc with DNA extraction) Any way, any and all help would be appreciated!! Hi IdahoVandal,
I know as a grad student several years ago that shaking samples out of hunters can be trying. Especially since I don't think there are many pigs in some of the areas you are targeting. I'll be glad to help but I'm on the Central Coast of California.
I'm currently collecting blood, tissue and hair samples for a grad student at Berkeley so I'll just double up on what I collect from my clients pigs.
