I'm embarrassed to admit I was watching this show yesterday and they were preparing snares laid flat on the ground for pigs. The snares were attached to a limber small tree bent down and set with a trigger. The trigger was baited with grain of some type. I have little experience with pigs. I've hunted them in Georgia and California, plus warthogs in Africa. Anyone try this here?

I saw it too, and I'm not embarrassed.

The bait looked like was plain corn.

I think the setup was the real deal, but could be mistaken.

Snares are not legal in all states. They catch deer and dogs.

I researched it, and finally came to the conclusion to stay legal, and use a trap if I really want to go that direction.

Just yesterday I began preparing a site deep in the woods, close to previous hog activity. I'm going to put a corn feeder there and keep it running from about November through Feb. I am building a stand/shooting platform about 70 yards away. If hogs show up, I'll get one. If not, it will feed the deer and coons.

I would simply rather shoot a hog than snare one. And besides, if I really wanted lots of pigs/hogs, I'll drive to Texas, where I've got more places/invites than I can hunt. I'm seriously planning a trip just for hogs, after deer season, while still cold.
