aktoklatSako old style Rifle....Help?
Friend has an older Sako AV Model receiver and is looking for a Quick Release ring set for his rifle. Leupold list a base set that might fit his rifle. Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes that would work on these older Sakos. I spoke with Warne CS and was told their's only fit the Moder 75's. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

aktoklatScr83jp,
I checked those sites but they do not offer them for anything but the 75 model. Thanks

Dr. LouThe 75, AV, and L series should use the same rings. I have had all the above and used the Leupolds, etc. Get the Warne QDs and you'll be happy. Lou

aktoklatI spoke with the tech at Warne and he informed me the rear ring fits but not the front ring. Seems they changed the dimensions on the dove tail front receiver. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I have an L pre '72 series Sako Finnbear uses 2 piece redfield bases and redfield rings also have the same setup on my Sako Mod 2700 Finnsport in 300 win mag I prefer redfield bases and rings or Loopies don't like warne.

Pete EDo not put Warne rings on a Sako!
The rails of the Sako act like a wedge when under recoil and a long with the weight of the scope, can drive the bases apart, stripping threads in the process.
I tried two sets of Warne on my L series Sako in 308win and it happened on both sets of mounts. In each case the scope started moving within about 3 or 4 rounds being fired...

Fish30114Call Dave or Gary at Talley, their QD's, either lever or screw type are just slick as grease!
Good Luck--Don

Dr. LouPete, thats' interesting. I have the Warne rings on my Sako 375 with Leupold 4x and it has n't moved after about 200 rounds. I just went out and loosened the screws on rings, inspected them, and found nothing wrong. I 'll definitely keep an eye on them. Thanks for the heads up. Lou

Pete EDr Lou,
The scope I was using was a steel Swarovski 3-12x50, so perhaps the weight was a factor?
I have two other sets of Warne for my CZ, in 9.3x62mm and they have held fine.
After returning the second set of Warnes to the gun shop I bought them, the guy admitted that they had problems with them on Sako's... I have always put down to the wedge shape rails on the Sako and the fact that on the virtically split Warne, the whole force is on the screws when the mounts are subject to recoil.
However, reading the post about regard the quote from the Warne tech, perhaps thats where the root of the problems lies?
Regards,
Pete
