whay are zeiss 2.5x8 conquest so much more than 3x9?

Finally found a Conquest 2.5x8 scope & was ready to buy it but he price was $528 and a 3x9 was only $399. What am I missing?

because 3x9 is the most common scope made, mass production makes it cheaper, I recently bought an elite 4200 in 3x9 for $239 this scope in other powers is around $100 more

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC
