When looking through my scope it is blurry. If I push my bifocal up, in line with my eye and scope I can see clear. I shoot military rifles (open sights) and use an optical aid with an apiture to sharpen sight picture. My question, Is there an optical aid for use with a scope? Can an eye specialist grind a bifocal type area on your glasses where it is needed (closer to the nose and higher)? What do you guys do about it? BEARSLYR

Yes, you can have eyeglasses ground so they will focus at any distance with any part of the lens. I have a pair for close work overhead with the upper 1/3 and the lower 1/3 that allow me to focus close (~15 inches) and the middle 1/3 focuses at distance The usual solution is to adjust the focus ring on your scope until you can see clearly with the portion of the eyeglasses you look through when shooting.

Try out a scope with a European style quick focus occular and a side focus, something like a 4.5-14 Zeiss Conquest. Look through the scope into the clear sky and use the occular focus to focus the reticle clearly against the sky (focusing the reticle is the only thing the occular focus will do). Then use the side focus to adjust for different ranges.
I've been experimenting with a Merit disc and open sites seems to help a lot so far..........................DJ

Apparently you are OK with Mil open sights, and have trouble with a scope?

I think, a scope can be adjusted to suit any correct glasses for distance. And why not? Once your vision is corrected, just about anyone should be able to use your scope.
Also I think you could probably correct your scope if you wern't using glasses.

My eye man sold me these frames that sit high and then have an easily adjustment to go even higher. Snooker players etc use them.

I think if you see thru your scope with your close reading lense there is a serious error in your scope focus.

Well, even for open sights there is little help: my LED-Sight Lot´s of older people told me that especially with older eyes it´s a real help to have an active illuminated sight. Maybe You could ask Dr L. S. Wirthlin or HeritageArms for their experience with them.

Thanks for all the input. I was at the range and finally got it focused. I didn't like the idea of possibly breaking the gas seal on the scope. It could be a little better. I dont know how far to go(thread length)? Again, thanks to all!
