Weaver 4.5 x 14 Grand Slam
Just ordered a Savage .223 and so far this is my first choice for a scope. Priced right at $319 at the Optic Zone.
I have never used a Weaver Grand Slam before but like this scope for the 14X.
Good choice? If not, any other recommendations in the same price area. Rifle will mostly be used for range practice and will sit inside a rifle case in my boat in case we see some wolves that need killing.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Snowwolfe, I have only looked through one Grand Slam scope and it was a smaller/lower power variable. The only fault I could find with it was the glass gave much distortion close to the edges, which I had already heard about from GS owners. Other than that I was really impressed with apparant quality and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one myself if the price was right.

Decided to stay with a Bushnell 4x12 3200. Optic Zone had the best price as well. Thanks!

I have the GS 6 x 20 on my Savage .223 and love it.

Set it up side by side with a Leupold 8 x something and both were crystal clear.

If I had the $ I'd buy a Leupold (US made) but I really like the GS 6 x 20 and don't see any distorition on the edges.

I still have a 3.5-10x50 on my 6.5x55 and love it. I think it's the only non-Leupold scope that I own. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. The only thing that I don't really need is the 50mm objective. Lou

Like Dr. L, I have a GS 3.5-10x50.

It is an oustanding scope value that works really well for it's intended purpose; on a Blaser R93 .243 Winchester barrel used for Roe Deer stalking.

Optically, not in the same league as European scopes; Zeiss, S&B, Kahles, Docter & Swaro. Having said that it is much lighter, compact(er) and cost but a fraction of what the heavier, larger & longer Euro Scopes cost.

I'd buy another if the requirement presented itself, and would defiantely consider the 14x a solid choice for a Varmint Rifle such as a .223 Remington.

I also have a couple of other Weavers and the regular vanilla-flavored Weaver Variable 6-16x42 isn't a shabby scope choice for a similar range of requirements, either.
