I have (5) Mk 4 and really like them. The return to zero is excellent. I have never had one be off after running the scope way out. The scope you are talking about is designed for the AR in 223 and has a drop comp dial on it, I think. I have seen one of those dials get loose were it would turn at the least little bump BUT that was on a Mk12 sniper rifle that was HEAVILY used in Iraq. The Night Force NXS' that were on the other Mk12s never had that problem. Overall I think they are excellent scopes but life and death I'd prefer one of the rigs with the NXS on it.

are the optics on those MK 4 LEUPOLD scopes better than the VXIII or do they use the same glass...it seems to me through the ones i have had a look the optics appear to be a bit better

I dont know about the optics. I think they are index matched with full coating on all glass. It seems my Mk 4s are crisper and brighter than my VX-IIIs in twilight but the difference is really negligable. You probably couldn't tell a USABLE difference in the field when it comes to pulling the trigger. I think the Mk4 gives you more travel for adjustment but thats really the only real life difference you will notice. Personally I have bought (2) of their 3-9x40PR which is a VX-II in a 1" tube and have been very pleased with the quality. Bearbasin sells them for 400.00. They are optically better than my Mk4s from 5 years ago.

I like the Leupold 3.5-10 Long Range with the Ballistic Cam.
I much prefer it in the field, over target knobs.

Any one you choose will be a good one and you will be satisfied. I really like Leupold and have yet to be even slightly disappointed.

I have 1 on an 8.5-25X TMR on a 6.5 WSM XP-100 handgun, and love it so far. Really like the TMR reticle for windage and ranging apps. .2 mil stadia provide +/- .02 mil ranging accuracy, and that's nice.

Buddy of mine used that same scope on another big XP handgun to kill a pr. dog @ 1600 yds. in <10 shots.

The only difference a Mark 4 gets you over a VX-III is different knobs, a mil dot reticle and the ring is black instead of gold. Everything else is identicle.
