We need a little more information. What reticle do you want? Do you want target turrets? Answer those questions, and you'll get much better, more focused answers.

I'm partial to the Zeiss Conquest line for great performance and good value but that doesn't square with your 30mm specification. Are you planning to have a long range hunting rifle that works out to 5-600 yards or do you want something to make steel ring at 1,000?

I'm assuming the sniper is a type of scope not that you are in law enforcement and that would be your job. Cameralandny.com is typically where I go first to look,Doug is a frequnet contributor to this forum and usually has the best deal on scopes he carries.

What is it about a 30mm tube that makes it a part of your requirement?

ok....more infor coming up. i want a 30mm tube because i have already mounted a nikon w/a 30mm tube on it and it is coming off as part of the deal. friend of my son w/too much $$$ and too little time bought it new, had me mount a scope. i sighted it in and played a little putting 9 rds thru it. he shot it maybe 5 times and says its kicks too much and got a .308 on my advice as i am a .30 cal guy. but he likes the scope so i am gonna put the scope on his .308 and keep the mount and rings as they are heavy duty for the 7 mag recoil. since it is a long range gun i want a long range scope on it. i like a (i just got off a 14 hr. shift and can't think)thick crosshair that tapers to a thinner crosshair reticle. embarrassing i can't remember the damn name of it right now. A DUPLEX DAMMIT! mil dot is ok too. and yes, it could be used as part of my job. but......none of this is set in stone. i would love a NF but not in the budget. i AM gonna put on a timney or jewel trigger too. or have the orig. worked on. family owns a hunting lodge in colorado so I HOPE the gun will only be used for south texas deer/hogs and colo. elk, but ya never know. i'm only paying $300 for it (long bbl, synthetic stock) so i have sone wiggle room for the scope. what else?

Bushnell elite or 6500 don't know what they are calling them now. 2.5-16x50 should just about do it. I have 2 of these one on a 270 wsm and one on a 7mm wsm both have held up and the glass is very good. Scope has side focus and 30 mm tube. Has duplex, mildot,or BDC reticle options.

Check out the Vortex Viper Long Range Hunter. My brother-in-law hit a volleyball size rock at 800+ yards with one on top of a 7mm Ultra Mag. You can also order custom drop turrets from the factory that helps with the long range hunting.
