Swaro. Z6, whats the big deal

The power varies by a factor of 6x. For example, they have a 1x to 6x. Not sure of the other models, but as an example, it could go from 2x to 12x. The glass is awesome according to a guy who has one. I have a Leupold VX-7, 1.5x to 6x and the glass is excellent. The guy mentionned above has both scopes and he says the Swaro Z-6 is better.
The fact that the power varies by 6x doesn't do much for me, but the glass quality does.

Having a bigger range of magnifition means the scope is more versatile: where you needed 2 old scopes before, you probably need just 1 now.
But I agree with DMB: the scope itself, the picture it gives to me is much better than others and especially the 1-6x24 or the 1,7-10x42 are awesome from the brilliance of the picture and extremly wide field of view those Z6 offer...

life is too short for not having the best equipment You could buy...

What I liked was the eye relief is much better than the old line of 30 mm PH scopes. I have the 1" Scopes on my rifles because the eye relief is 1/2" greater.

I looked at the Z6 but the warranty was not liftime like their other scopes and if I pay $1600 or more for a scope I want a lifetime warranty.

IOR has had a 3x18 out for some time now, as well as 2x12. How can they claim first with 6x??

If you look at the fine print, you'll see they claim to be the first with a 6X zoom in a 30mm tube. They indeed were the first to fit it in a 30mm tube.

Regardless, they look like very nice scopes.

So to clarify...this is just, like a Mercedes is just a car, a 1-6 power scope in a 30mm tube???

I believe Swarovski have also gone back to an etched glass reticule on these, which on a hunting rifle, is a big plus in my books...

I have a Swarovski Z6 - 2X12-50 - 7A reticle and it will be a nice combo with a .375 H&H, DG 2X is fine for me, Plains game 12X is plenty for longe range. Using bullets between 235 and 350Grain is a good thing, I will try this combo out in a couple of weeks on a Brown bear hunt in AK.

Safe hunting to all,
Roland

Look at your variable power scopes: 3x9, 4x12, 6x18, 8x32 for instance. For the first 3 the maximum power is 3 times the minimum. For the last one, the max is 4 times the min. It's been like that for decades. So Swaro is crowing about their ability to build a variable with a max that is SIX times the min.

Did this make it any easier to mentally grasp?

One of the best things to me about the Z6 scopes is the EE or extended eye relief version of the 1x6. You can now use the full potential of guns like the .375 H&H without worrying about scope bite or only 4Xs power.

Swarovski has changed their position on this and it now, as all their other optics do, has a lifetime warranty.

Has anyone had any experiences with the Z6 illuminated reticle system? I'm considering the purchase of one, but may go to Schmidt & Bender if I can't get a comfort level on the Swaro. Good to know that they are now lifetime warranty.

Just looked at their website. Looks like limited lifetime on optics, ten years on other parts, 2 years on electronics. If I am wrong, then someone please correct me.

Don't know about the US market. But for Europe you're right, limited warrenty only. But lifetime warrenty isn't legal in Germany (and Austria?) anyway (because thought of as unrealistic and thereby unethical to offer).

Purchased a 2-12 TDS model this summer. Mounted it last night. It is an awesome scope. Talk about a field of view and clarity. Also the reticle is in the second plane so it doesn't magnify like the 3-12 models do. I like the 3-12 power range and would be thrilled if they'd simply put the reticle in the second plane. But since they don't, the 2-12 provides that feature and a wider field of view. Great scope for walking and jump shooting.
