Sending RF binos overseas
Has anyone sent a pair of rangefinding binoculars overseas recently? I see some sellers mention a restriction on range finding products due a military concerns. Considering asking a mate in Colorado to send a pair to me and wondering how much this restriction extends to private packages?

Many US companies have blanket restrictions, not necessarily a legal requirement!

I think what you are referring to are the ITAR regulations.

I think there are some restrictions but I am not sure what they cover and I am also fairly sure it's destination-country specific.

Thanks guys. Yes ITAR is what I’m talking about. Is there somewhere I can look it up for Australia? Also when did they come in to play?

If you Google up ITAR you should find info on these regulations pertaining to Australia. The link below is to a NZ law firm with a ITAR guide download available. This is for NZ but probably applicable to Oz too. In plain english so easy enough to understand.

PS - range finders, range finder binoculars, thermal imaging scopes, etc., are all freely available from retail outlets here in NZ but I imagine trying to import as a private individual would be a different story.

I couldn't even get a two-quart GI water bottle out of the US. Fortunately, I could get one from the UK, and the postage was cheaper.
