However, on my latest rifle the Leupold is too short for the mounts I want to use. It is a featherweight, so I don't want the heavy Zeiss.

Here is my solution to the problem. Anyone tried one of these yet? If not, why?

Everything I've read regarding the Browning scopes has been extremely positive.

The former owner of SWFA stated sometime ago that they were reportedly constructed utilizing Elite 4200 (or better) glass in 3200 magnification ranges. Their construction is much better than any 3200 I've seen. Hank Williams Jr. reportedly purchased two or more out of one of the first factory runs and is happy with them.

Natchez is selling their Browning closeouts at very good prices, also. I may order two of the 8-24 x40's this week. Natchez states that they are built to 3200 specs which I'm convinced is incorrect. Reports by all credible sources indicates that Browning specified 4200 or better glass and their own tube and erector design/construction criteria. The retail pricing supports that position. I think that Natchez may be the victim of pimping by Bushnell/Simmons to promote their namesake/branded products.

Please let us know how your scope checks out. I think that you made a fine choice.

I've heard they were the exact scope as the 3200s. Is that not true?

Have you thought about just buying a set of extension rings? Maybe ext bases?

same scope as the elite, just pic up an elite 4200, they are almost as good as the zeiss, but the zeiss is still heavy

Here's another possible solution. I'm sitting here looking at a front leupold scope ring whose base is offset from the ring by about 3/4 inch. I'm not sure what this type of ring is called but could help solve your problem.

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

It is reported to me by two really top notch optics guys, one associated with Browning for a time, that my original statement on the 4200 glass and proprietary construction is accurate.

I am not an engineer and I do not yet have samples of both scopes on my bench for comparison. I have used a ton of Browning branded products over a period of half a century and do know that they demand quality and originality in the manufacturing process. I ASSUME and hope that top drawer specs and stringent QC are still mandated by big B.

If by featherweight you mean M70, you can install the 2.5-8XLEU. If you want a fixed mount use the DDs, if you want removeable use QRs. Mill off the small amount needed from the front face of the front ring and the rear face of the rear ring. Reblue the rings and the 2.5-8X will fit perfectly w/ proper eye relief. It looks correct and works without blocking up the ejection port opening w/ extended rings.

You are right, M-70 clone, the Kimber Model 89 BGR. I am using Leupold DDs.

Milling/modifying the rings? With the Browning using Bushnell 4200 glass and their own styling, why bother.

Looks like the Browning does what I want at Leupy pricing and Zeiss quality! What's not to like?

Thanks Reloader, but with a glued on saddle and 3.0" of eye relief, it's over priced and over rated!

Bushnell should bring back the Bauch and Lomb moniker and make the scopes with the Browning specs! Till then, until we get to the 4200 series, I won't even consider them.

And once we get to the 4200 series and all that extra weight plus cost, I'd be better off buying a Zeiss conquest in 3X9X40!

Don if you like the leupold just buy some extention rings and you should have no problem mounting it.

advice, but I HATE extension rings with a passion! To me they are the ugliest things ever made for on a rifle.

I am now the proud owner of a Browning 2X7!
This scope will fit my Kimber very well. Browning, like Bushnell, seems to have this thing for logos on the caps?

Rather plain, non flashy, scopes suit me best.
I'll try and find some plain caps for this scope. If I can't do that, I'll have the stuff ground off and repainted with duracoat.

So far that's my only complaint!

Since I have the scope, I'd be glad to answer any questions.
