LJSI believe it is made by Aimpoint. I believe it i designated the M68CCO. The commercial equivalent or closest to it is the CompM4.

BISCUTThere is no "mil spec" and civi version of Aimpoints. Only difference is one is compatable with night vision the other not. Reduces price a bit.
Mil is really using a plethora of optics in theater. Nightforce, IOR, U.S. Optics for reaching out and touching someone but most ground troops are using EoTech, Aimpoint with no magnification for CQB and more and more have one of the many models of ACOG's.
A good friend is on his 4th tour and has noticed a big increase in ACOG's. Trouble is the price tag is up there!
I have a compact 4x BAC ACOG and really like it for AR's.

WWhunterBiscut is right. There are many different types used. Many are even purchased by the soldiers themselves.
One of my kids just returned from a 16 month tour in Afganistan and the M4 carried had an Aimpoint mounted courtousy of the US Army.

The marines generally have a ACOG.

sputsterThe official Army sight is the M68 CCO (non-magnifying Aimpoint) that you may see Soldiers with. You will also see a lot of Trijicon ACOG, probably the TA31, which is what I had in Iraq. And of course the USMC has a lot of ACOGs, they went big for them. Still, units can acquire a number of different sights with NSNs for their weapons if they buy them, which is why you will also see Eotechs, Leupold CQ/T, and the like.

N E 450 No2All of the above posts are correct.
Several Spec Ops are also using 3x and 4x magnifiers with their Aimpoints and their EO TEC's.
Also a lot of personas optics are being used.
I saw a show on TV where a Troop was making an entry and he had a scoe on his ar that looked like it had to be a 6x to 24X.

It was almost as long as his whole M 16.
