Cliff LyleOptics selection for 1885 Low Wall .223
I just took possession of a nice Browning 1885 Low Wall in .223 that I intend to use as a walkaround rifle, limiting my bullet weights to 55 grains and below.
This rifle may be used for prairie dogs but I don't want to outfit it for that use specifically.
What are the recommendations for scope power and selection? I want to stay less than $800.

GeorgeSI think a Zeiss conquest 3x-9x or 3.5x-10x, Leupold 3.5x-10x 40mm, Nikon Monarch 3.5x-10x, Burris FullField II 3x-9x Ballistic Peep Plex would look right and work well.

Cliff LyleI was wondering if the 40-42mm objective bell might look a bit top heavy. I agree that there is little requirement for magnification over say, 10x. What are thoughts on something like the 2.5-8x36 vxii I?

GeorgeSThe Leupold 2.5x-8x is a great scope and would be a fine choice, as well.
Here are Low Walls with scopes like the ones I mentioned:
To my eyes, the long barrel of the Low Wall compensates for the mid-sized scopes. the choice of course, is yours.

SR4759The Leupold Alaskan 6X with 7/8" steel tube scope would look pretty good on a Low Wall.

Cliff LyleThat's a good idea. A fixed 6X with a 38mm objective bell might be really well balanced.
