Anyone own one? I'm thinking a 1.25-4x firedot german #4 would be just the ticket for my 550 FS in 6.5 swede for East texas deer and hogs.

I've got a 2-7x33 with the German #4. It is in Talley QR rings as a primary or secondary for a 375 Weatherby. I haven't gotten around to testing it on the rifle yet, as I am testing a 1.5-8x32 Minox and so far have liked the Minox so much I haven't taken it off. I do need to get the VX-R zeroed soon so I will decide then. The reticle is very thick on the VX-R. Dot seems good and glass is as good as the VX-3 2.5-8x36 and 1.75-6x32 I have. I'm just really liking the Minox and the ability to go to 8x for long shots that the rifle is capable of and go down to 1.5x for anything that might fight back!!! The field of view on the Minox is much greater than the VX-R on the low end..Pretty much can just point and shoot with both eyes open.

Is the Fire Dot on the VX-R also visible in the reticle when the illumination is turned off?

Just a regular thick German #4 when power is turned off. So the answer is no.
