Scope mounting systems?
I have a new Rem 700 338RUM and I'm debating on which bases/rings to use. Leupold Mark 4 vs. Burris Xtreme vs. standard dual dovetail? I've used the leupold and Burris DD rings for years with no problems. Just wondering if there are advantages to the other designs. Thanks!

What scope will you be using? If no larger than a "normal" 3-9x40 or similar size scope, then any of the mounts you list are fully adequate, as are most you don't list. If you are planning to use a behemoth scope with a 30mm tube, 50mm objective, and weight of a pound and a half or more, then its high mounting position and greater mass will place much more strain on the mounts. However, it's hard to imagine the dual dovetail system failing even with the heaviest of over-sized scopes.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X44 that I will probably use. Then again, I may get a new 4.5-14X50 RapidZ-800, not sure yet. I figure I can't go wrong with the DD system.

Dual dovetail with Burris Signature rings is tough to beat for normal applications IMO.

I'd use Talley QD rings. As strong or Stronger than Leupy DD mounts and you could use BOTH of your scopes back and forth if you wanted too. My good buddy PRDATOR uses them on his 338 RUM with Zero problems. I have them on more rifles than I want to think about and no problems.............................DJ

Talley QD's are the way to go. I have used them all and I use these for everything now, all the way up to 450 Ackley. They just work and they look good to.

Same here. Since my first use with Signature rings almost 10 years ago, I won't mount a scope without them. The DD and Signature combo is about the most invincible mounting system I can imagine.
