MADDOGWeaver K-3
I found a old Weaver K-3 in a box that my dad left after he passed away in 2001. I noticed later that (in a picture) it was mounted on a old 30-06 he had. I was wondering what kind of recoil this old scope would take as I would like to put it on a 9.3 X 62 of the same era.
Also is there a place that will rebuild these old scopes?? Thanks in advance maddog....

Rick 0311I believe that Weaver will work on your scope.
Those old Weaver K series are really strong and have great optical quality. I recently bought a K2.5 and I love it. Next to Unertl, Weavers are my favorite scopes.

StonecreekWhich of the several iterations is your K-3? I can't recall all of the designations, but the K-series was made from the 1940's until the lated '70's as I recall. Early ones did not have a constantly centered reticle, but other than that, if it is a steel tube El Paso model, it will take as much recoil as any scope ever built.
By the way, the K-2.5 and K-4 were much more common that the K-3, which makes it more special still.
I can't say that the optics were as good as most scopes today, but they are decent and honest. The adjustments on the steel Weavers are some of the most precise of any scope.
Enjoy it. You've got a great old scope that should give you many more years of service. The fact that it belonged to your late father should make it extra special to you.

MADDOGRick, Stone creek, & Wiktor. Thanks for your replies and information. I fully plan on keepin the scope and in fact still want to use it on some of Dad's old guns and have some fun. He was a very practical man and never got into the amount of rifles a person like us has today. He had 3 Rifles he hunted everything with from mice to Alaska Yukon Moose. In fact his old Mauser 30-06 is one of the most accurate guns I have.. 50 years old and still shoots a 1/2 @ 100
I wat to put this old scope on his older than dirt 9.3X62 and go huntin. My big question is will it take the recoil...I will look to havin it rebuilt by Weaver.... Thanks again for all your in-put Maddog
PS Hope I did not get too boring...

sdgunslingerThat old Weaver will take a pipsqueak like the 9.3 in a walk.......I have one (K3) I bought new in about 1969 for 35 bucks.....it's been on 7 mags , 300 s , 375 s , muzzleloaders , and slug guns and the old girl is still goin' strong....
Google Weaver Scope Repair. I believe they are located in Texas and work on the old Ks. I had them redo an old K3 and change reticles for me. They do an excellent job. Yes, your K3 can handle recoil. I have had mine on a .375 H&H with no problems.
When I hunted South Africa about 10 years ago my PH Who had twenty + years experience told me that he had seen every make of scope come through his camps includding some of the most exspensive european scopes made. He said that only two kinds of scopes had never failed that he knew of. The old steel bodied fixed weavers and the fixed power leupolds. I don't think you will have any trouble with your weaver.
